State Key Laboratory of Material Processing and Die & Mould Technology of Huazhong University of Science and Technology is built at the national approval in 1990.It is the only one State Key Lab at the die technology research field. Now it posses an education and the scientific research troop led by Academician Cui Kun. A group of young and middle-aged professors, doctoral tutor are the backbone elements. Of which nearly 60 percent of the teachers receive a doctoral degree at home and abroad.
From the early 1990s, CAE technology development group in the Lab began to get involved in FEM simulation of sheet metal forming areas. Keeping up with the forefront of international development, they had made deep exploration on the aspects of pre and post processors and algorithm involving in FEM simulation. After nearly 10 years research and development, in 2002, the Sheet Metal Forming CAE Integrated Software System FASTAMP oriented to Die Design and Optimization of Process Scheme came out. It filled a domestic gap in this field and broken the domination of the foreign simulation software in Sheet Metal Forming CAE application field.
